My wife and I had a great church-geek date. Sushi for dinner, and then off to West End Methodist to hear N. T. Wright. Everyone who is anyone was there. I must have seen two or three dozen people I know. We got there an hour early, and there were already people filling up the pews. We got great seats.
Bishop Wright talked about resurrection, Jesus' and ours, and some of the implications of this doctrine. He was there in part to publicize his new book called "Surprised by Hope."
Afterwards, I said to my wife "ask me what he said that I disagreed with." She asked, and I answered: "NOTHING." It was so great to hear this guy take on all variety of theological positions. Everything he said was right on, down to even some of the side issues he commented upon. I loved it!
If you don't know Wright and his work, go out and get busy reading.

I was impressed by the explanations that NT Wright gives in his book.
Wright is especially good on explaining the metaphors in Hebrews 1 :-
In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
They will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
You will roll them up like a robe;
like a garment they will be changed.
The heavens and earth will be rolled up and discarded, in the way that clothes are changed.
The old clothes that have perished are thrown away, and replaced with new clothes.
The old clothes are rolled up and thrown away.
As I said, Wright is very good on explaining this 'clothing' metaphor, which many people up to now have failed to understand.
when erin & i were chatting i had mentioned that i will need to be slow to adopt the "resting" place till ultimate resurrection because i don't know if i have the language skills and knowledge to differentiate that between most folks understanding of purgatory. i know they are not the same thing, but explaining that is a dif deal.
I am so sad I missed it!!!! I found out about it last night AFTER the event!!! Glad you've enjoyed it. Everything I've ever read by him was great!
